The Trails And Tribulations Of Localizing Trails In The Sky SC

Recommended Videos

XSEED has  released a new The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Second Chapter localization blog entry, and this one serves to highlight the experiences of translators and the quality assurance team as they prepare the PlayStation Portable and PC versions of the game.

The post from XSEED details good, bad, and ugly experiences that occurred while working on The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC. The best experiences are left for last, to end on a high note. Some of the less than desirable moments working on the game involved ellipses that became zenkaku ellipses, things wouldn’t appear on a PSP or PC screen they way they did in the files, more conservative text limits, random text inflation, consistency issues, boss pop-ins, invisible monsters, purple doorways to nowhere, and more.

On the plus side, XSEED’s consultations with Falcom lead to new understandings of things in both The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky games. Germanic naming conventions were implemented, and retroactively added to the first game on steam. The Liberl Royal Army military structure was overhauled for the sake of accuracy.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC was originally released on Japanese PCs in 2006, and the PlayStation Portable in 2007. XSEED will release both versions in English on the PlayStation Portable and PC in 2015.
