Looking Over The Animal Crossing amiibo

Now that Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival has been released, we’re lucky enough to have Animal Crossing amiibo in our lives. By which I mean, the K.K. Slider, Isabelle, and Tom Nook amiibo are great. But really, it isn’t only those three figures that are striking. All of the characters in this particular line feature some rather nice details.

For example, Isabelle, Tom Nook, Cyrus, and Reese all have a texture to the “fabric” of their clothes. Nook’s sweater vest feels as though it’s knit, Isabelle’s blazer is made of tweed, and the alpacas’ aprons almost feel like a sort of corduroy. Some of the Fire Emblem Super Smash Bros characters felt as though they had that sort of detail, but it’s far more apparent on the Animal Crossing amiibo, due to their more simplistic design.

That sort of detail comes up on K.K. Slider as well. He isn’t wearing any clothing, but his guitar actually has a wood grain design. I only have the one figure, so I can’t definitively say if each K.K. is unique, but that his amiibo does have that extra touch is appreciated.

Mabel is another pleasant surprise. I was concerned about the build quality of this amiibo, due to the number of quills. I was worried that they might be a little too flimsy or delicate. Each one is quite substantial, yet still distinct.

What’s most appreciated, however, is the overall quality of the figure when compared to a Super Smash Bros. amiibo. Many of those have a translucent boot that helps secure the figure, but detracts from its overall appearance. None of the Animal Crossing NFC figures have this additional support, which adds to their charm. On the plus side, putting a wave one amiibo, like the Villager, next to a Tom Nook allows the viewer to see how far the quality of the characters has come.

The Isabelle, Digby, Tom Nook, Mabel, K.K. Slider, Cyrus, Reese, and Lottie amiibo are immediately available. Lottie is a Target exclusive in the United States and Best Buy exclusive in Canada. Timmy & Tommy, Kicks the Skunk, Blathers, Resetti, and Celeste amiibo will be part of the next wave.
