Nintendo previously revealed a new “Nintendo Account” service that aims for Nintendo experiences beyond platforms to operate a new global membership system, and it has launched today in Japan.
The Nintendo Account will make it so that users can easily register accounts through Nintendo systems, and also through social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, or Google+, and also email.
The service allows users to directly purchase digital downloads on the spot, along with member profiles, purchase records, play records, notifications, and gifts. It also features a new point program system, similar to what we had with Club Nintendo.
Additionally, Nintendo has a Nintendo Account registration campaign going on, where users get a 100 yen bonus for every 1,000 yen charge they put on their Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShop credit. This campaign will carry on until February 1, 2016.
A Western launch date for the service has yet to be announced, but we can expect to hear about it sometime in the near future. Check out our earlier report for more details on the Nintendo Account and Miitomo features.
