Metal Gear Online Back Online After MB Exploit Removed

This has been a tumultuous week for the Windows PC launch of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s online component. Metal Gear Online’s beta began on January 12, allowing people access to another form of online multiplayer. Then, on January 13, some discovered a workaround to get free Mother Base Coins, the currency people can spend real cash to acquire. Konami immediately cut off access to the beta and began performing maintenance. Now, on January 14, the Metal Gear Online beta has been restored.

Robert Peeler, Konami’s Online Community Manager, had been offering continual updates on the situation in the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Steam forums. A hotfix was applied to fix the MB Coin exploit last night, and early this morning the maintenance ended. The Metal Gear Online beta should be running as normal. People will have to redownload the entire 3.7GB beta to resume playing, and MB Coins can’t be used at the moment.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s Metal Gear Online launched on consoles back in October 2015. It is currently in beta on Windows PCs. Konami has not offered an end date for the beta.
