The Wii U’s TurboGrafx-16 Virtual Console Games Offer Screen Settings

Recommended Videos

The Nintendo Wii U TurboGrafx-16 games have a different Virtual Console menu than standard Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, and Nintendo DS games. Bonk’s Adventure, New Adventure Island, and R-Type all have additional options that allow people to adjust how the game looks on the screen.

The TurboGrafx-16 Virtual Console games offer both Monitor and Nintendo Wii U GamePad screen settings. In both, players can choose from a default 4:3 ratio, a full 16:9 stretched ratio, or customize the game’s screen size, ratio, and vertical and horizontal positions. None of these functions are present in a standard Virtual Console menu. (A screenshot of Earthbound’s Virtual Console menu appears below for the sake of comparison.)

TurboGrafx-16 Virtual Console games also have some special sound effects on the Nintendo Wii U. You will hear chimes as the game loads or when you pause.

Bonk’s Adventure, New Adventure Island, and R-Type came to the Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console in North America on July 14, 2016.
