Evolution Champioship Series Expands With “EVO Japan”

EVO organizers revealed during EVO 2016 this weekend that the Evolution Championship Series is headed to Japan as “EVO Japan.”

Below is a look at the announcement from Mark “MarkMan” Julio, alongside chief producer of the Tekken series in Katsuhiro Harada and Street Fighter executive producer Yoshinori Ono:

EVO Japan was actually announced back in 2010, when it was called “EVO vs. Godsgarden” at the time. The tournament was expected to take place on May 2011 but it was postponed due to the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. Since then, we’ve heard from Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar that the tournament is still in the works, but the official announcement for it was finally made at EVO 2016.

More details on the Evolution Championship Series’ spinoff will be revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2016 in September.
