Koei Tecmo Producer Shares Why Attack On Titan Is Not A Warriors-Style Game

Attack on Titan fans get to revisit memorable scenes from the first season of the anime, and beyond, in the video game produced by Koei Tecmo. The publisher is well-known for the fast action of its Warriors series, but Attack on Titan offers gamers a completely new gameplay experience. Koei Tecmo Producer Hisashi Koinuma shares with Siliconera why Attack on Titan turns away from traditional Warriors game mechanics in favor of a new, distinctive system.

Attack On Titan Gameplay Interview

“When it comes to licensed collaborations, I always prioritize how we can satisfy the fans of the original work in the games we produce,” Koinuma says. “To stay true to the source material and maximize the allure of Attack on Titan, we were determined to create new game mechanics different from those of the Warriors franchise.”

Central to immersing players into the action from the anime series is the gear used to take down Titans. “We concentrated on the aerial actions of the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear, primarily to make it exhilarating and easy to operate,” Koinuma explains. “It was difficult to implement and took a lot of time, but it improved through multiple attempts at trial and error.”

Koei Tecmo is also working on a game based on the Berserk series. Koinuma answers questions about its production later this week.

Attack on Titan comes to PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox One on August 26, 2016 in Europe. The North American release is a few days later on August 30.
