Playtonic On Why The Cancellation Of Yooka-Laylee’s Wii U Version Took Such A Long Time

Recommended Videos

Last week, Playtonic Games announced that they unfortunately had to cancel the Wii U version of their upcoming game, Yooka-Laylee, due to “unforeseen technical issues.” Now the studio has elaborated a little bit on just why it took as long as it did for them to decide to cancel production for the Wii U.

Over on Playtonic’s FAQ for Yooka-Laylee, they explain that their team wanted to “explore every possible avenue” before ultimately deciding to stop development for the Wii U and change their focus onto the Nintendo Switch.

Here’s Playtonic’s full explanation from their FAQ page:

“The Playtonic team wanted to explore every possible avenue before making the very difficult decision to transfer development from the Wii U. Our developers worked tirelessly over many months in attempt to solve our technical issues, but unfortunately it’s not been possible to bring Yooka-Laylee to Wii U as originally planned.”

Yooka-Laylee will release April 11th, 2017 for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A version for the Nintendo Switch is also in the works, though it has no release date as of right now.
