Producer Eiji Aonuma Says Tri Force Heroes Is The Most Underrated Zelda Game

With Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s release just on the horizon, Game Informer asked producer Eiji Aonuma about his favorite games in the Zelda series as part of their month-long Zelda coverage.

Firstly, Aonuma ranked Twilight Princess at number three on his list of favorite Zelda titles, noting that he “wanted to create something better than Ocarina.” Next, he listed Ocarina of Time as his second favorite, noting it was “a game that gave me the opportunity to create a 3D world.”

At number one on his list, Aonuma picked The Phantom Hourglass, mentioning that it was his wife’s favorite as well:

“This is something my wife also likes, Phantom Hourglass. That’s number one. I was developing Twilight Princess, and the goal for that was to make something better than Ocarina. But then that game was something I proposed as a new style of gameplay, and I was a producer on that game for the first time, so I have a lot of sentiment for it.”

Lastly, when asked what he thinks is the most underrated Zelda title, Aonuma went with Tri Force Heroes and said the following about the game:

“The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes. I wanted the users to play a little bit more of that game and have that experience. I love that game.”

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will release for the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch on March 3rd, 2017. Tri Force Heroes is available for the Nintendo 3DS.
