Super Mario Odyssey’s Developer Diary Has Kenta Motokura Talking About The Game

People looking to learn more about Super Mario Odyssey have an additional resource to turn to. The first developer diary video has been released. In it, Kenta Motokura, the game’s director, speaks a bit about what we’ve learned about the Nintendo Switch game’s story and special features.

Motokura kicks off by bringing up the wedding. This time, Bowser has a serious goal in mind in regards to Peach’s kidnapping. He wants to marry her. In the video, we actually see a New Donk City advertisement hyping up the ceremony. Mario heads out to save the day, traveling around in the Odyssey, a hot air balloon with a hat-shaped-building at its base. People collect Power Moons to power up the Odyssey and travel to new kingdoms.

Motokura then confirms that the Joy-Con controllers, Handheld Mode, Joy-Con Grip, and Pro-Controller are all viable control schemes, though notes holding both Joy-Cons is his preferred way to play. He talks a bit about Cappy, who Mario meets in the Cap Kingdom, and the Capturing ability that lets Mario become different characters and things. It closes with information about costumes and amiibo, reminding people that the wedding Mario amiibo unlocks that outfit for him in Super Mario Odyssey.

Super Mario Odyssey will come to the Nintendo Switch on October 27, 2017 for Nintendo Switch.
