Citadale: The Legends Trilogy Offers 8-Bit Vampire Slaying Across Three Generations

Three generations of Demon Slayers must all deal with the Dark Lord’s machinations in Citadale: The Legends Trilogy, a collection of three NES-inspired monster-slaying horror platformers.

In the first game in the collection (Citadale: Gate of Souls), players control Sonja Dorleac, utilizing the Shadow Blade and an arsenal of axes, shurikens, and other tools to cut down 8-bit beasts on their way to defeat the Dark Lord. Death doesn’t seem to do more than inconvenience the monster, as players will face it again in Curse of Darkness, where players control Sonja’s son, Gabriel, and again in Legacy of Fate, where Sonja’s grandson, Christopher, must deal with it one last time.

Citadale: The Legends Trilogy will have players combing through monster-plagued countrysides, decaying woods, gothic castles, and crumbling halls, platforming and cutting down creatures as they go. Drawing clear inspiration from Castlevania, the game looks to offer challenging play against horror-themed enemies, but is also filled with secrets in its stages, as well as events and items that will lead to alternate endings.
