Zanki Zero is a game where every character is a clone and has an extremely shortened lifespan, and several new screenshots released show off more of the aging and rejuvenation feature, as well as some more dungeon crawling. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]
Aging and the Extend Machine
Each character only has a 13-day lifespan, with their current age reflected on-screen as well. In order to keep on going, new clone bodies need to be created by using the Extend Machine.
A certain amount of ‘Score’ needs to be racked up in order to activate the Extend feature, and this is done by exploring the ruins of civilization around the characters. While the characters will return to their child forms, they don’t lose their memory, personality, or learnt skills from their previous life.
Extend TV
Extend TV is a mysterious TV show starring the cute mascot Mirai and the young boy, Sho Terashima. Their show acts as a tutorial guide for the main characters.
Survival in the Destroyed Civilization
In order to survive in this harsh destroyed world, characters will need to take care of their various needs, such as health, stamina, stress, “bowel movements”, or risk dying. This means that new facilities will need to be created at the base in order to improve the quality of life.
Real-time Ruins Exploration
There are various reasons to explore the ruins around the island – to secure food supply, to fulfill tasks given by Extend TV, to spruce up the base, and to increase Score to use the Extend Machine. The battles in this game, befitting its real-time nature, also are more action-oriented, using a combination of the movement and attack buttons.
Zanki Zero: Last Beginning will release in Japan in Summer 2018 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The game will release in the West for PS4 and PC. You can check out its latest trailer in our previous report, and details on the eight main characters here.
