Nintendo announced during their E3 2018 Direct presentation that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will indeed support GameCube Controllers.
This was actually noticed in a firmware update back in October of last year, where it was discovered that the Wii U GameCube Controller Adapter became compatible after updating.
Additionally, it was revealed that all current Super smash Bros. series amiibo figures will be compatible with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches on December 7, 2018 for Nintendo Switch.
