In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2018, Monolith Soft saw a profit of 138,000,000 yen, about a 60% decrease from what it saw in the previous fiscal year (ended March 31, 2017) of 346,000,000 yen.

Keep in mind that a decrease in profit doesn’t mean Xenoblade Chronicles 2 sold poorly. On the contrary, it did pretty well and was last sitting at 1.31 million units sold which is more than any previous Xeno game. The decrease could be attributed to development and expansion costs, including a new studio that opened its doors earlier this month. Last we heard, the company has been urgently recruiting staff with action game experience.

In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2016, Monolith Soft saw an increase of 2.7 times the previous fiscal year with a profit of 274 million yen. During this period, the company released Xenoblade Chronicles on 3DS and Xenoblade Chronicles X on Wii U. They also helped in the development of Project X Zone 2, Splatoon, and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer.

Monolith Soft, known as the developers of the Xenosaga series and Baten Kaitos series is a subsidiary of Nintendo. During the period of the fiscal year ended March 31, 2018, the company developed Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and was involved in parts of Splatoon 2’s development.
