Project Re Fantasy’s Story Setting Is Shaping Up Nicely, But Katsura Hashino Says It’ll Still Be A While

Katsuhra Hashino of Atlus is working on Project Re Fantasy with studio, Studio Zero, which was founded last year. While it didn’t get much of an appearance at TGS 2018, Hashino shared an update during an IGN Japan broadcast. [Thanks, Gamestalk.]

The interview took place during a showing of Catherine: Full Body at the start of the live stream. Hashino says that unlike the Persona series, this requires the world setting needs to be made from scratch, so it’ll take longer.

However, he also added that the story setting is mostly complete. While he didn’t share any new details about the game, he said that Atlus will start sharing more information bits at a time after Catherine: Full Body releases, on February 14, 2019.

Here’s what Hashino-san said during the broadcast:

“It’s taking quite a bit of time, but if we were to say Shibuya is the setting, then you wouldn’t really have think of much for a Shibuya setting, right? However, this time since it’s a fictitious world, we have to make it interesting from scratch. So let’s say if Tolkien (The Lord of the Rings writer, J. R. R. Tolkien) were still around today, what kind of fantasy world would he make after having seen the modern world, and what would it have? And that’s what we’re doing, so instead of looking back at other fantasy games we’ve had until now and going from there, we’re starting from zero.

The story’s setting is also shaping up nicely, but even though we did create Studio Zero in order to make Project Re Fantasy, we’re also doing Catherine: Full Body, which releases February 14 next year, so once things settle down there, then I hope we get to start sharing things about Project Re Fantasy with you guys.”

Project Re Fantasy’s platform(s) has yet to be announced.
