Sony Is Not Holding A PlayStation Experience 2018 Event

The 308 edition of the PlayStation Blogcast has brought with it some sad news. It turns out Sony will not be holding a PlayStation Experience 2018 event. Shawn Layden, the Worldwide Studios Chairman, made the announcement about eleven minutes into the episode.

At the 11:06 mark, Layden said, "But for 2018, I know this is going to be a disappointment to some people, but we decided not to hold a PlayStation Experience." He then elaborated that Sony would not have it in the states this year.

Layden made the following statement explaining the reasoning behind the decision to skip the PlayStation Experience in 2018.

The reasons behind that really are… we have a lot of progress that we’re making in our games… Now that we have Spider-Man out the door, we’re looking down in 2019’s games like Dreams and Days Gone, but we wouldn’t have enough to bring people all together in some location in North America to have that event. We don’t want to set the expectations really high, and then not deliver on it.

Layden also noted that this was a “hard decision” for Sony to make.

The first North American PlayStation Experience was held in 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The last one was in 2017 in Anaheim, California.
