Last month, Sega Games Japan filed two trademarks in the US, one to renew the existing trademark for the Virtua Fighter series logo, and a new trademark titled ‘Battle Genesis’.

Virtua Fighter was re-trademarked for use with coin-operated video games and arcade video game machine use. Similarly, ‘Battle Genesis’ has also been trademarked for coin-op and arcade game use.

Keep in mind that Virtua Fighter might be just a standard trademark renewal by Sega, as it has been 12 years since Virtua Fighter 5 came out in 2006. However, ‘Battle Genesis’ is quite interesting, especially as it is marked for arcades. Both trademarks were filed on October 2, 2018.

Virtua Fighter 5 was released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2007, but was released first in arcades in Japan in 2006.
