Square Enix Has A Build Of Final Fantasy XIV In Stereoscopic 3D

Bahamut firing Mega Flare that blasts out of the screen? It’s possible. Square Enix demoed a build of Final Fantasy XIV in stereoscopic 3D at E3. The technical demo used NVIDIAs 3D vision surround technology for a PC configuration.

What about PlayStation 3s, which also support 3D games? Dengeki Online asked Hiromichi Tanaka, Producer, about it and he replied, “I think it would be quite difficult.”

The PlayStation Blog also interviewed Tanaka and asked how he plans to reach out to console gamers that haven’t experienced MMOs in the past.

“Because Final Fantasy XIV is designed as a cross-platform MMO, there is no difference between the PC version and the PS3  version. We believe that previous attempts to bring MMOs to consoles have been unsuccessful because they focused too much on adapting their style to suit that audience and they lost the feel of a true MMO. Therefore, regardless of the platform, we are aiming to produce a real MMO with Final Fantasy XIV.”

I’ll take that comment as the team has no plans to reach out to the console crowd.
