Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy Removes Pop-up Duels, Romantic Phrases

Square Enix held a livestream for Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy! recently, where they talked about what has been changed for the upcoming Switch release, as well as why this game was remade.

Check out the highlights below:

Reason for Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy

In the stream, director Akihiro Maeda talked about how the team wanted to do something for the Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon series’ 20th anniversary, and Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon was the easiest game to develop in the shortest amount of time from planning until release. The team struggled with whether to choose Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon 2, which is more popular with fans, or FF Fables: Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon.

Pop-up Duels Removed

Sadly, the Pop-up Duel card game feature that was present Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo’s Tales and which was added to the DS enhanced port of FF Fables: Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon is not present in this game, as balancing the card game, which is separate from the main game, would take a considerable amount of extra work to add in properly. As such, the feature has been removed in order to refine and enhance the dungeons in the main game.

Romantic Phrases, which were used to gain cards for Pop-up Duels, have as such also been removed as well.

Wiimote Minigames Removed

There were several minigames in FF Fables: Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon that required a Wiimote, and these were removed for the DS version previously as well.

Cidventure

Cidventure mode, an additional mode added to the DS version, has been tweaked from its previous incarnation. Things that frustrated players, such as the fact that levels reset upon leaving dungeons like in the Shiren series, and an obtuse item management system between Chocobos and Cid, have been changed. Cidventure has instead been incorporated into the main game, and you can use your Chocobos in new dungeons.
