Nintendo’s Strategy For Mobile Involves Having Players Pay Less

Recommended Videos

Nintendo may have ventured into the realm of smartphone games with partners like DeNA and Cygames, but it seems that Nintendo has been actively asking to change the games so that players won’t spend too much, according to a report in Wall Street Journal.

In order to protect Nintendo’s brand image, Nintendo has asked its partners to adjust rates of getting special items and characters, as the company is concerned about being criticized for being greedy, according to one Nintendo official.

This has seen lower revenue for Nintendo’s partners, including CyberAgent Inc., which runs Dragalia Lost alongside Nintendo. According to one CyberAgent official, “Nintendo is not interested in making a large amount of revenue from a single smartphone game. If we managed the game alone, we would have made a lot more.”

Currently, Nintendo is working with LINE Games on Dr. Mario World, which is set to release in sixty countries worldwide in early Summer 2019.
