Switch Version Of Fortnite No Longer Matchmakes With PS4 And Xbox One, Joins Mobile Pool

Epic Games’ battle royale game Fortnite recently updated to Version 8.10, and with it came some major changes to matchmaking for the Nintendo Switch version of the game.

According to the latest patch notes from Epic Games, the PS4 and Xbox One pools have been combined for crossplay matchmaking. This requires players to opt-in to cross-play and those who don’t are restricted to Creative Mode and Playgrounds.

The Nintendo Switch version of the game was previously matched with the PS4 and Xbox One versions, but this will no longer be the case as Epic Games has combined the Mobile and Switch pools. The developer says in the patch notes that they “expect an on-average better per-game experience for both Mobile and Switch players” with this change.

The change appears to have been a result of ongoing performance issues with the Nintendo Switch version of the game, which lagged behind the PS4 and Xbox One versions, causing a disadvantage in performance for its players. Keep in mind that players can still play with others on all platforms, but this change applies to the matchmaking part of it.

Fortnite is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android.
