On April 14, 2019, the PlayStation Blog noted that there are some freebies being doled out to celebrate the first anniversary of Kratos and his son, Atreus’, adventure on the PlayStation 4. Cory Barlog, who directed and helped write the 2018 installment, then took to Twitter to say that the theme and avatar set wouldn’t be the only things offered. He then quickly offered another response, letting people know that no DLC is on the way.
Here is Barlog’s tweet noting that no God of War DLC is coming.
Just so no one gets the wrong idea – there is no DLC coming for the game. Sorry.

Barlog later went on to make a joke in a subsequent tweet and say, “The next installment is an Epic game store exclusive though.”
This is not the first time Barlog has noted that no God of War DLC is planned. Back in January 2019, he noted in an interview with Kinda Funny that Santa Monica Studios considered DLC, but his idea was considered “too ambitious.” He noted his idea was similar to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, the standalone expansion to Uncharted 4.
The two freebies that have been announced are a theme and avatar set. The PlayStation 4 dynamic theme is available immediately and brings Kratos and Atreus to the Lake of Nine. The avatar set will give people new icon options on April 17, 2019. A “Thank You” video is also online now.
As a reminder, God of War DLC was only released as part of the Digital Deluxe and Collector’s editions. Those who purchased those versions of the game received Death’s Vow armor sets for Kratos and Atreus and an Exile’s Guardian shield skin.
God of War made its PlayStation 4 debut on April 20, 2018.
