Ouya Service Ending On June 25, 2019

The Ouya is about to officially die. Razer has announced that Forge TV and Ouya service will end on June 25, 2019. This means if someone still has one, that they will no longer be able to use the Discover section after that date and any games that require an online validation check to play will no longer be able to used.

The official faqs for the Ouya, Forge TV, and MadCatz MOJO went over the fates of the Android-based microconsoles. If someone has a Forge TV, say the iOS and Android applications, those will still work. The systems themselves will also work. However, any funds you have for their storefronts will be gone after the service shutdown date, accounts will be deactivated, and websites will close.

The Ouya Kickstarter originally launched on July 10, 2012. It was declared a success when the campaign ended on August 9, 2012, as it raised $8,596,474 from 63,416 backers. The first developer consoles from the campaign shipped out on December 28, 2012, and normal ones headed out to backers on March 28, 2013. The general public could buy them as of June 2013.

However, the Android microconsole did not sell well. As a result, Razer ended up buying it. Razer then officially discontinued it in July 2015, though the storefront was still open for people to discover games that had been released.
