PlatinumGames Brainstormed Ideas For More Than 5 Astral Chain Legions During Development

Recommended Videos

In Astral Chain, player characters use Legions to fight against enemies. PlatinumGames’ latest developer blog, by Animator Marumi Nakajo, goes over what could have been. In the final version of the game, there are three Astral Chain Legions: Arm, Arrow, Beast, Axe, and Sword. However, during development, a number of other possibilities appeared. Instead of becoming Legions, some of them instead became enemy Chimeras.

Here is concept art showing off the other possible Astral Chain Legions that could have been. In the dev blog entry, Nakajo referred to them as Humanoid, Winged, Djinn, Ghost, Tiny, “Special Effect,” Gorilla, Beast, Snake, and Slime.

Of those concepts above, Nakajo noted two that became Chimeras in the final game. These were Winged, which showed up in the upper right corner concept art, and Snake, which was in the bottom left corner above.

Astral Chain will make its Nintendo Switch debut on August 30, 2019. Earlier this week, a highlight video showed the Legions in battle.
