At the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, a Death Stranding panel offered additional insights into the game and a few of its characters. For example, Hideo Kojima offered a look at two possible covers for the game, depending on the version people might buy. He also talked about Heartman, one of the characters, and why how his name is connected to his role.
The PlayStation Blog shared looks at the two different Death Stranding box art designs. The standard art shows Sam Bridges, Norman Reedus’ character and the game’s protagonist, in his normal messenger outfit. The Steelbook also seems to feature him, but has him in a more dirty and scruffier situation. This is available with the Special and Collector’s Editions of the game.
As for Heartman, this is Nicolas Winding Refn’s character who dies every 21 minutes. When this happens, he spends the time in which he is dead searching for his loved ones on the other side. After that brief period, his heart is restarted, he is resuscitated, and he comes back to life, all so he can eventually have that additional opportunity to search for his family again. While he waits for these moments where he is dead and able to search, he spends the 20 minutes waiting by listening to music or watching short movies. (Thanks, IGN!)
