LionWing Publishing Wants To Localize Strategy RPG Sorcery Tempest For The West

Last week, game publisher LionWing Publishing started a Kickstarter project that, if successful, will bring over the strategy RPG Sorcery Tempest, that takes gameplay and narrative cues from games like Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Vagrant Story.

Central to Sorcery Tempest’s appeal is its turn-based battle system, which takes place on a hex-based grid. At the beginning of combat, players place several of their party members (whom each have their own stats and niches, and customizable equipment), and can move their characters around on the numbered hex grid. Player party members and enemies standing in the same numbered hex can attack each other, and there are also two special hexes named ‘Odd’ and ‘Even’ that also allow you to fight against enemies in odd and even spaces respectively.

As you might imagine, where to move and to attack is key, as well as equipping your characters properly for the encounters.

Aside from combat, players will be able to explore towns and rest areas during main character Jasper’s travels. Story also takes place in visual novel sequences, and LionWing Publishing have released several screenshots of some sample localization work. The main translator, Marik, has previously worked on localizing other games such as CLANNAD, CLANNAD Side Stories, Grand Fantasia, and Aura Kingdom.

Currently, LionWing Publishing is aiming to reach a goal of $5,500 USD for the game, and the Kickstarter project lasts until November 12, 2019. The game localization as of present is around nearly 20% funded. There are several stretch goals at $6,000, $7,000, and $10,500, mainly for adding new story scenarios that weren’t in the original game.

If successful, the game is expected to release in English for PC via Steam and itch.io in July 2020.
