Sony has announced a new add-on for the PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 controller, and it is an unexpected attachment. Starting on January 23, 2020 in North America and February 14, 2020 in Europe, the DualShock 4 Back Button will appear.

The PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 Back Button is a bit of a misnomer, as it isn’t just one button. It actually adds two additional buttons when clipped on and has an OLED screen that acts as a third button. When attached to the bottom of the controller, you have the option to remap 16 actions to its two back buttons. The OLED screen button lets you remap controls or select an active control profile. People can still access the 3.5mm headset jack when it is attached, as there is a pass-through on the bottom.

This PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 Back Button also offers the ability to remember certain players. There can be up to three button configurations saved to one device (not by account). This allows you to remember a certain person’s preferences or have a designated moveset for a particular game.

As for the aforementioned OLED screen, it is there to provide information. In the video clip, it shows which actions or buttons are currently assigned to the additional left and right back buttons and which of the three profiles is currently active.

The PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 Back Button will appear in North America on January 23, 2020 and in Europe on February 14, 2020. It will cost $29.99.
