Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Shows How It Will Let People Be Goku in an Expressive Opening

The western Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot release date has been revealed for quite a bit. Fortunately for people outside Japan, they won’t have to wait very long for the chance to play the game. Goku’s life story will be told on January 17, 2020. For those keeping track, that’s one day after the January 16, 2020 Japanese debut. But now, an opening cinematic really helps set the stage.

Past promotions for the game have leaned into the nostalgia factor, and so does this video. It spends more time looking at Goku’s precious moments with friends and family than it does his colossal battles. We see him spending time with his sons, Gohan and Goten. He fishes and shares a meal with Krillin. We see him flying with Piccolo. Bulma, Chi-Chi, Master Roshi, and lots of iconic faces appear.

That doesn’t mean the Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot opening is all peaceful. Toward the second half, we get to see the full extent of Goku’s abilities.

As for the song, “Cha-La Head-Cha-La” is performed by Hironobu Kageyama. It was the first Dragon Ball Z opening theme. It has also been covered quite a few times, with Flow, Momoiro Clover Z, and Screw each having their own takes on it. It could be considered one of the most iconic and memorable anime theme songs.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will come to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Japan on January 16, 2020. After that, it will head to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in both North America and Europe on January 17, 2020.
