Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is the follow-up to Kickstarter title Yooka-Laylee, this time set in a 2D platformer genre reminiscent of the Donkey Kong Country series. This demo for the game will include, according to Playtonic:

  • An assortment of vibrant and exciting 2D levels.
  • A terrain-transforming “Pagie Challenge”.
  • A State Change!
  • Tonics to sample. Give Yooka a massive head.
  • The Impossible Lair itself!
  • Saved State! Progress from the demo carries over when the game is purchased.

The eponymous Impossible Lair is an extra tough level that is meant to be cleared with the help of bees that act as extra lives. However, its inclusion in the demo means that for those who really are just that good at platformers, it is possible to beat the game by clearing the level without purchasing the full game. That said, as save data will carry over to the full game, those who wish to progress through the game as intended can do so if they want to.

The demo will be available on the following platforms at the dates below:

  • Steam: 23rd Jan
  • PS4/Nintendo Switch: 30th Jan
  • Xbox: TBA

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
