During the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Direct, NookLink, which will be part of the Nintendo Switch Online app, was revealed. NookLink will allow players to scan QR codes for designs created in previous titles, such as the Nintendo 3DS’ Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, to use in the Switch game.
Additionally, as part of the Nintendo Switch Online app, players can connect online with other players who also have Animal Crossing: New Horizons. They will be able to chat via keyboard and voice chat options.
NookLink will be available in March 2020. It will apparently arrive not long after the full game.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020, worldwide.
