Animal Crossing New Horizons Updates Could Be Pushed Back by the Pandemic

Animal Crossing holidays and events work a bit differently in the Nintendo Switch release. Animal Crossing: New Horizons updates bring in the holiday events, like spring’s Bunny Day. After a bit of adding and removing it, the ESRB rating also said that in-game purchases are a part of the experience. Unfortunately, a The Washington Post interview with Director Aya Kyogoku now suggests that the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus could delay future content.

During the interview, after mentioning how the updates weren’t planned to discourage “time traveling” but were there to give people something to constantly do, Kyogoku provided insight into Animal Crossing: New Horizons updates are going. She noted these extra additions are in active development by saying they were “still going” on the title. When talking about the schedule and the part the pandemic could play, she said, “We’re not sure if we have to shift anything, but I think we have to be flexible.”

In addition to the possibility of Animal Crossing: New Horizons updates not arriving as planned, Kyogoku discussed the decision to begin the game with characters choosing a hair type, rather than a gender. She said told The Washington Post, “We basically wanted to create a game where users didn’t really have to think about gender or if they wanted to think about gender, they’re also able to.” There are no gender-locked customization items, as everyone has access to all of the same eye, hair, and clothing options. Kyogoku also told the outlet, “…Society is shifting to valuing a lot of people’s different identities.”
