Similar to Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth, the game features two distinct parts: story and battle. In the story parts, you’ll mostly read through the scenes to progress the story. You’ll also make decisions which may lead to alternate events. However, as you progress through the story, you’ll need to win battles to continue, and today’s trailer gives us a quick look at it.

In Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen each unit has its own unique chain attack. These include everything from physical attacks to heals. As units level, their chain attacks gain additional attacks and become more powerful. Once a unit reaches a certain level, they can acquire their Final Strike. Final Strikes are unleashed as a finisher to a chain attack, so that means you’ll need to successfully link them to connect. Upon doing so, you’ll get to see a special attack animation to go with the Final Strike.

You’ll also get access to co-op chains as you progress through the game. These are special coordinated attacks between specific units. These are extremely powerful techniques that cover wide target areas.

Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen will release for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in North America on May 26, 2020 and in Europe on May 29, 2020. Check our previous report for an earlier trailer and info on its limited edition version.
