Essentially, after the digital version of the game launches in Summer 2020, there will be regular updates to the game which expand how you play (roughly one update per month). Part of the updates include a multiplayer mode, as the main game will be a single player-only experience at launch.

As previously stated, Yo-kai Academy Y will have players playing as eight different characters and experiencing life as a student at Y-Academy. Apart from lessons, there are going to be special events that may influence the story, like sudden love confessions. You will also be able to join more than 400 different club activities. By getting close with other students, you can earn their Student Card as a token of friendship.

However, living an ordinary school life isn’t the only element that will be present. Jinpei and his friends are able to fuse with yo-kai to turn into Yo-kai Heroes, and you’ll encounter evil yo-kai who you’ll need to take down. As a Yo-kai Hero, your duty is not only to defeat the yo-kai, but to also do it in as flashy and cool manner as possible in order to earn more “Likes” from the crowd.

Yo-kai Watch Jam: Yo-kai Academy Y will release for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan in Summer 2020 as a digital title. You can visit the game’s site here.
