Paper Mario: The Origami King is a large game with lots of different areas to explore, but there’s one relaxing hot spot that can currently turn into a nightmare. The Origami King Shangri-Spa location is home to a glitch that can keep people from beating the game. However, it turns out Nintendo is aware of the issue and is working on a patch to fix it. Here is the statement Polygon received from Nintendo on July 29, 2020. It does not offer a release window for the patch to fix the Shangri-Spa glitch.
We are aware of reports about issues affecting some players of Paper Mario: The Origami King. We are working to resolve these issues and plan to address them in a software update. We apologize for any inconvenience.
When people visit the Shangri-Spa, the campaign requires you to visit the Spring of Bliss, Spring of Jungle Bliss, Spring of Purification, and Spring of Sanctuary, and get stamps from them. Once you do, you can exchange the stamps you’ve collected for a VIP pass to enter the fifth spring.
The problem is, if you head to that last spring and give your VIP card to the Toad, but exit the cave and don’t go in, you’re stuck. The game doesn’t acknowledge you already visited each of the other four Paper Mario: The Origami King Shangri-Spa springs, you can’t get those stamps again, and you can’t get a second VIP card. This would effectively break the game for people chose not to immediately visit the last spring, since you can’t reload a prior save. And you have to complete this questline to beat the game.
Paper Mario: The Origami King is available for the Nintendo Switch. There is no release window yet for the fix for this issue, but one is on the way.
