Sega Ages Switch

The Last Sega Ages Game Will Be Sega Ages Herzog Zwei

Sega will no longer be porting classic titles to the Nintendo Switch as part of the Sega Ages. In an interview with Game Watch, developer M2 stated that no further games will be ported to the Switch as a part of this lineup. A port of Herzog Zwei will launch on the system on August 27, 2020 in Japan and be the last entry in the collection. [Thanks, Game Watch and Famitsu!]

In an Oni Dino-translated excerpt from the interview, which was shared on Nintendo Everything, Yosuke Osukari had this to say about the possibility of other ports:

Considering Sega Ages has ended, some may be wondering if we have plans to continue re-releasing past titles on Nintendo Switch–I want that to happen. I hope to bring something over that will really satisfy Switch players. So until then, we hope you’ll look forward to it.

In a separate interview with Famitsu, Osukari mentioned that he has since moved to the sales department to help work on the Game Gear Micro. He also mentions that he has been working with that team since Spring 2020.

Handled by developer M2, the Sega Ages lineup has given people a chance to play 19 classic titles to the Nintendo Switch. In addition to porting the games over, each one has also been updated in some capacity to add new or enhance existing features. (Online multiplayer also appears.) The collection has included games like Sonic the Hedgehog, Virtua Racing, Space Harrier, and Puyo Puyo.

The Sega Ages collection originally started with Sonic the Hedgehog and Space Harrier, which were then subsequently released in Japan on the Nintendo Switch on September 20, 2018. Since then, Sega and M2 brought released eighteen games worldwide. Herzog Zwei will be the nineteenth and final one.
