On the latest PlayStation.Blog page, Sid Shuman mentioned that update 8.00 adds a new set of default avatars that can be chosen by all players for their account profiles. The added avatars come from numerous game titles, such as Ghost of Tsushima, Bloodborne, Journey, God of War, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, The Last of Us Remastered, and The Last of Us II.

Most of the remaining content of the PS4’s update 8.00 has been known from the beta test held in July 2020. This update adds support for third-party authenticator apps to perform a 2-step verification. It also combined the Communication and User-Generated Content options in Parental Controls and added an option to Mute All Microphones. A lot of changes are also made to Party and Messages. However, users will no longer be able to create their own Events after this update.

The previous major system software update to the PlayStation 4 was made one year ago on October 8, 2019. The 7.00 update expanded Remote Play support to more mobile devices. With this new 8.00 update, the mobile PS4 Remote Play app also gets renamed to PS Remote Play, as the app will be made to support the upcoming PlayStation 5 as well eventually.
