Horiuchi was contacted by a high-risk close contact from a health care center. When he took a PCR test afterward, it came up positive. The 63 years-old voice actor is now instructed to take proper rest to recover quickly. So far, he has not shown any COVID-19 symptoms, such as fever or cough.

Born July 30, 1957, Kenyu Horiuchi is known for providing the Japanese voice of Raiden in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and the Metal Gear Solid series. He also has a couple of roles in the Gundam series as Mashymyre Cello in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ and Jamil Neate in After War Gundam X. Other than that, he also voiced Senju Hashirama and Pain in Naruto, Libra Dohko in Saint Seiya, Kin’emon in One Piece, and Irmgard Kazahara in Super Robot Wars: Original Generations.

In April 2002, Horiuchi also established his own voice actor management agency named Kenyu Office. Its office in Tokyo recently moved from Shibuya to Shinjuku in September 2019. The agency now steps up its measures to prevent the virus from spreading any further.

A few days earlier, another Japanese voice actor Banjo Ginga, known for his roles as Liquid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid series and Gihren Zabi in Mobile Suit Gundam, also tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
