Super Mario Maker Will Be Delisted, Online Services Ended

It is the end of the line for Super Mario Maker on the Nintendo Wii U. Nintendo took to the European product page to reveal support and digital sales for the game are coming to a close. It announced Super Mario Maker will be delisted on January 13, 2021. This will be followed by the end of online services on March 31, 2021. The Super Mario Maker Bookmark site, which lets people browse uploaded courses, will also shut down on March 31, 2021.

It also took to Twitter to confirm the game is “ending.”

Nintendo did not explain why Super Mario Maker’s online services are being closed down, but did confirm people will be able to download courses up until the shutdown and play those levels after online services end. In-game, you can have 120 levels saved. However, once the online elements end, people can’t check any bookmarks or see course rankings.

These are all also tentative shutdown dates as well. INintendo noted, “Please note that depending on the circumstances, these services may be discontinued earlier than the above-mentioned date.”

So far, Nintendo only shared this update on the European Wii U eShop page. The North American one doesn’t mention that Super Mario Maker will be delisted. Also, the Nintendo 3DS North American and European pages don’t mention any delisting of that version of the game, even though it also allows people to visit Course World and play levels made in the Wii U version of the game.

As a reminder, March 31, 2021 will be a big “delisting” day for Nintendo. In addition to Super Mario Maker online services ending that day, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Game & Watch Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 35, and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light will be delisted or no longer be sold after that point.

Super Mario Maker is available on the Nintendo Wii U worldwide, as is Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS.
