Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed the winners of the PlayStation Partner Awards 2020 Japan Asia. The annual PlayStation Awards that have been held on the PlayStation’s anniversary every year received a new title and award format for the 2020 edition, and two familiar faces took top prices: Cloud and Goku.
The biggest award in this show was the Grand Award, which was given to the top three games developed by Japanese and Asian companies that had the most sales worldwide. In no particular order, the awards were given to Konami’s eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer 2020, Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake.
The presentation also gave out Partner Awards to Japanese and Asian titles that not only made it into the top 20 worldwide sales rankings, but also had supporting excellent metrics, such as the number of active players. A total of seven games won awards:
- Black Desert by Pearl Abyss
- Final Fantasy XIV by Square Enix
- Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2 by Bandai Namco
- Nioh 2 by Koei Tecmo
- Persona 5 Royal by Atlus
- Resident Evil 3 Remake by Capcom
- Yakuza: Like a Dragon by Sega
Two Special Awards were also given out during this show. Kojima Productions’Â Death Stranding won one of them, for being a Japanese/Asian game developed in cooperation with SIE that had the biggest sales worldwide. The other one was the only award available to a non-Japanese/Asian game that sold the most in Japan and Asia, and it went to Electronic Arts’ Apex Legends.
