Nintendo eShop Returns After Christmas Day Outage

It’s alive. The Nintendo eShop was down on December 25, 2020 throughout the day, likely due to demand on Christmas day. It even prompted Nintendo to send out a tweet explaining its awareness of the issues. Now, all seems well and people who did experience one of the issues—which involved purchased games not downloading—should experience normal service.

That’s one of the Nintendo eShop problems that came up yesterday. Some people had issues accessing the storefront at all. Others did manage to get into it and make purchases, but then found the games they bought wouldn’t start downloading or show in their libraries even though the product pages said they were purchased. (This happened to me with Piffle.) Now that service is restored, any purchases you made should automatically begin downloading and appearing on the Home screen on your Nintendo Switch.

As a reminder, multiple Nintendo eShop sales are running until 2020 ends. There are Bandai Namco, Capcom, EA, Indie World, NIS America, and Ubisoft sales all available now. Here are a few of the more notable discounted games:

  • Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition $24.99
  • Disgaea 1 Complete $19.99
  • Doraemon Story of Seasons – $24.99
  • Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen – $14.99
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ – $9.59
  • Hades$19.99
  • Immortals Fenyx Rising $39.99
  • Langrisser I & II – $29.99
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III – $39.99
  • Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle $14.99
  • Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate $15.99
  • Okami HD $9.99
  • A Short Hike $6.39
  • Spiritfarer $22.49

Nintendo’s Network Maintenance Information / Operational Status website says the eShop isn’t down and is working as it should on all platforms.
