The Japanese press release included a quote from Microids’ CEO Stephane Longeard, who promised that the team will “deliver a game that stays true to the original work’s true essence.” The title creator Go Nagai was also quoted saying he is looking forward to seeing a Grendizer game with the current technology come to fruition.

UFO Robot Grendizer is a 1975 Japanese super robot manga and anime show that tells the story of Duke Fleed, a survivor of Planet Fleed’s royal family whose planet was ravaged by an invasion from King Vega’s forces. The crown prince escaped to Earth with the eponymous giant robot Grendizer, although he would continue to fight as the Vega forces also went to invade Earth.

Grendizer has been frequently included in the crossover strategy RPG series Super Robot Wars. It also aired in the U.S. in the 1980s as a part of the Force Five anthology. The title was especially popular in France, where it became the first anime show to be aired on French television under the localized title Goldorak in 1978. Go Nagai even received the medal of Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters at the Japan Expo held in Paris in July 2019.

The new Grendizer action game is currently under development for PC and consoles. More details on the game, including its official title, will be revealed in the coming days.
