New Switch Model Supposedly Will Have OLED Screen, 4K When Docked

According to a report from Bloomberg, a new Switch model is apparently in the works. Its sources confirmed few major details about the supposed console. The system will be larger than the current versions available, as it would have a seven inch OLED screen. The undocked resolution would be 720p, but 4K while docked. This comes after years of a supposed and rumored Switch Pro console.

Bloomberg’s report involved additional details about the rigid OLED screen for the possible system. Supposedly, Samsung might begin making them in Summer 2021, around June. It would also involve the sort of screen used with mobile devices. That sort of screen could also lead to improved battery life. This new Switch model would end up being announced in 2021. It would then ship later this year.

As a reminder, the current Switch models both use an LCD screen. The original Switch has a 6.2 inch screen. When undocked, the resolution is 720p. When docked, it is up to 1080p. The Switch Lite has a 5.5 inch screen and 720p resolution. Sony’s last handheld system, the Vita, had an OLED screen when it launched.

Both the original Switch and Switch Lite models are immediately available worldwide. The most recent specialty designs are the Mario Red & Blue version and upcoming Monster Hunter Rise model. Nintendo hasn’t announced anything about a possible updated “Switch Pro” version.
