Genshin Impact Passes $1 Billion in Earnings on Mobile

miHoYo’s Genshin Impact has rocketed up the charts like Venti riding an air current. According to information released by mobile industry analysis firm Sensor Tower, the mobile version of Genshin Impact gathered more than $1 billion USD in earnings in the six months since its September 2020 release [Thanks, Develop!]

The estimate continues the Chinese-developed game’s upward trajectory. Less than two weeks after its release, Genshin Impact was estimated to have made more than $100 million.

By February 2021 Genshin Impact had made more than $874 million USD. In the last 30 days, it topped the RPG charts worldwide (though its earnings for the period were behind other games like PUBG Mobile and Honor of Kings in China). China is the lead market for spending for Genshin Impact, with Japan and the US taking second and third places, respectively.

The latest estimates also break new records for earnings speed, as well. Genshin Impact has outpaced the previous fastest-earning mobile games, pulling ahead of Niantic’s Pokemon GO and NCSoft’s Lineage M, which took nine and ten months to earn their first billion dollars, respectively.

Further still, the estimates may actually hide the real figures somewhat. Sensor Tower’s earnings estimates are based only on figures gathered from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. miHoYo has Genshin Impact PC and PS4 versions available. There could also be any number of third-party Android app stores across various regions to consider.

Finally, Sensor Tower’s data added some insights as to which Genshin Impact characters brought in the most revenue following their debut. The chart-topper was Zhongli, closely followed by Xiao and Ganyu. Together, the three five-Star characters earned an estimated $45 million from players rolling the gacha for them. By comparison, Albedo was the weakest earner, bringing in a potential $9.1 million.

Genshin Impact is available on iOS devices, Android devices, PCs, and the PS4s, and a Nintendo Switch version in the works.
