Stop crime with the Spider-Man power pad

Plug and play TV games are more interesting than a joystick with a built in emulator. Companies are testing out new gimmicks like mixing a power pad, hand controllers and 16-bit graphics. While the Amazing Spider-Man TV game is unlikely to blow anyone’s mind expecting HD visuals there are some interesting game design concepts here. You physically move on the mat to make Spider-Man move and players mimic Spider-Man’s hand movements to shoot web.

Before the Wii came out Radica experimented with motion controlled sports games and Square-Enix released Kenshin Dragon Quest, a slime slashing game where players held a sword in their hands.
