You don’t get all twelve volumes of manga on one DS cart. Compile Heart is splitting Hi no Tori into three separate cartridges, each one costs 4,179 yen ($37). To read Hi no Tori you drag a reading window on the bottom screen and glance up to see a magnified image. It’s intuitive, but it doesn’t appear as user friendly as DS Bungaku Zenshuu. Along with volumes of the manga, Compile Heart is including DVD-lite extras like character profiles as part of the package. While I’m genuinely intrigued by Compile Heart’s Read on DS series I can’t imagine it being a smash hit at that price. If each game cost around 2500 yen, the price of a Simple series game it would be much more appealing.
