Yomi No Tsugai roughly translates as “Pair of the Underworld”. The meaning of the term Tsugai can vary between “pair” and “connecting point”. On the other hand, Yomi is the name of the world of the dead described in Shinto mythology. The announcement cover art prominently features the phrase “Awaken your Soul!” (魂を目覚めさせろ!).

The story will reportedly center around Yuru and his younger twin sister Asa, both of whom live in a remote mountain village. The story begins when Asa is confined to a jail cell at the center of the village. Yuru then begins to learn about an unnatural mystery hidden beneath his home.

Arakawa originally teased a new manga back in July 2021 as part of a series of projects coinciding with the 20th anniversary of Fullmetal Alchemist. The announcement came with a sketch of the supposed protagonist. In that sketch, we also see what is likely Yuru’s younger sister behind bars. Square Enix also announced that it will release a Fullmetal Alchemist mobile game.

Yomi No Tsugai will begin publication on Monthly Shonen Gangan’s January 2022 issue, releasing December 10, 2021.
