Devil May Cry 5 Won PlayStation Japan Asia 2021 Special Award

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced some of the winners in the PlayStation Partner Awards 2021 Japan Asia. It revealed the winners of the Partner and Special Awards based on sales from October 2020 to September 2021. Capcom’s Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition won a Special Award for being a Japanese/Asian-made game released around the PlayStation 5’s launch with noteworthy statistics, such as player numbers.

Other than Devil May Cry 5, Sony also gave PlayStation Special Awards to Sakuna: of Rice and Ruin and Apex Legends. Sakuna won an award as a game made by Japanese or Asian indie developers with the best worldwide sales. Apex Legends received the distinction as a Western-made title with the highest sales in Japan and Asia.

Sony awarded Partner Awards to games developed by Japanese and Asian companies with outstanding global sales and user metrics. A total of five games received the awards in 2021:

  • Tales of Arise by Bandai Namco
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade by Square Enix
  • Final Fantasy XIV by Square Enix
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2 by Bandai Namco
  • NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… by Square Enix

In 2020, Sony gave a Special Award to Death Stranding for being a Japanese/Asian game developed together with SIE with the highest worldwide sales of the period. The free-to-play and online games Apex Legends, Gundam: Battle Operation 2, and Final Fantasy XIV have now won the same awards for two years in a row.

Sony will hold another award presentation on December 3, 2021, and reveal the Grand Award winners. This award goes to the three games made by Japanese and Asian companies with the highest sales from October 2020 to September 2021.
