Fire Emblem Fates DLC Will Leave Nintendo 3DS eShop in 2023

Due to the discontinuation of the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShops, several games will make changes on how they handle DLC in the store. For Fire Emblem: Fates, all 3DS DLC (including maps and Revelation) will no longer appear in the shop after March 2023. While the DLC will be available for re-download if you purchased it in the past, Nintendo plans to fully remove it in the future. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

DLC for Fire Emblem: Fates includes bonus maps that provide exclusive classes and extra resources. However, the most jarring DLC that will no longer be available is perhaps the Revelation path. Though it is DLC, it is the final act of the story. Similar to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Fates has three paths with different stories and units. Unlike Three Houses, the Fates routes are split across three separate games. Those who wanted to experience the Nohr story needed to purchase Conquest and those who wanted the Hoshido story had to buy Birthright.

Revelation is the third path in which you get access to units from both countries, allowing new parent combinations for your child units. It also reveals new secrets about the world and characters. Because of these factors, this route is arguably the “true end” of the game. Even if you played both Conquest and Birthright, you would not have the full story or a certain ending without Revelation. However, Revelation is only available digitally (unless you purchased the Special Edition).

Fire Emblem: Fates is readily available on Nintendo 3DS. All DLC for Fire Emblem: Fates will disappear from the Nintendo 3DS eShop in late March 2023, so you will need to download it onto your device before then.
