Megaton Musashi Crossover With Getter Robo, Mazinger Z Teased

Level-5’s super robot action RPG Megaton Musashi will receive a crossover with a couple of mecha classics: Mazinger Z and Getter Robo. A tweet on the official account promised more details on the Megaton Musashi crossover event in the future. However, a brief teaser for the collaboration was shown during Level-5’s Megaton Lab livestream event.

The clip shows off Musashi, one of the main Megaton Musashi Rogues (playable mecha). Musashi steps forward, but as lightning flashes, it’s replaced by the silhouette of the Getter-1 Robo, then by Mazinger Z. Mazinger Z and Getter Robo come from manga artist Go Nagai (creator of Devilman and Cutie Honey). Both series were considered groundbreaking for the mecha genre. Getter Robo featured one of the first super robot designs to be assembled from multiple other machines, while Mazinger Z‘s titular robot was one of the first to be piloted from the inside.

Megaton Musashi released in November 2021 in Japan, alongside an anime series. It takes place in a future where an alien invasion has wiped out 90% of the human population. The survivors were herded into a shelter, and their memories of the catastrophe were erased. A trio of young people are later chosen to pilot the “Megaton-class” Rogues, a group of super robots that stand about 200 feet tall. Constructed of Megatronium Alloy, the Rogues are mankind’s last-ditch resistance against its oppressors. Players control and customize Rogues to defeat their enemies. The game balances 3D combat with Rogue customization and story-driven exploration. Players can use parts won in combat to upgrade and create new components for the Rogues, which are reflected in their appearances. Players can also cooperate in Megaton Musashi multiplayer to defeat large enemies.

Megaton Musashi is available on the Switch and PS4 in Japan. The first season of the anime series is viewable in Japanese on YouTube. Localization plans for the franchise have not yet been announced.
