Witch Hat Atelier follows Coco, a young girl who aspires to become a witch in a world where only certain people are allowed to practice and use magic. After a rogue spell turns her mother into stone, Coco sets off to become the apprentice of a wizard in order to reverse the spell.

It’s unclear when the anime will air or if it will receive a simultaneous English dub release. However, both the announcement tweet and teaser video announced the anime adaptation in English, likely for an international audience. In celebration of the announcement, creator Kamome Shirahama released an illustration featuring characters Coco, Agott, Richeh, and Tetia.

The manga series began publication in 2016 in Monthly Morning magazine, and currently has nine tankobon volumes released. Since its inception, the series has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. Kodansha USA publishes the manga’s English version, which won the Eisner Award for Best U.S. Edition of International Material in the Asia category in 2020.
